Adjustments & Flexion Distraction

Back pain, whether it is in the upper or lower back, or neck region is all too common today. Often, back pain is caused by muscle or ligament strain, structural misalignment due to improper posture, trigger points, or other types of musculoskeletal injuries.

Just because back pain is common, however, doesn’t mean you have to live with it. One of the best treatments for back pain is chiropractic adjustments, which can include Flexion Distraction.

What is a Chiropractic Adjustment?

Many of the chiropractic adjustments performed at our office are diversified adjustments. This merely means the main tool used for spinal manipulation is the hand. However, in cases where back pain is being caused by disc herniations and bulges, Dr. Dave uses a gentler type of adjustment technique known as Flexion Distraction.

In the Flexion Distraction technique, the patient lies down on a specially designed, moveable table. Once the patient is in the correct position, Dr. Dave will slowly move portions of the table in order to gently pull open the affected area of the patient’s spine. This allows pressure on spinal nerves to be reduced, and disc bulges to be pulled back into the spine.

Flexion Distraction has proven effective for managing pain caused by sciatica and disc herniations or bulges. It is a preferred alternative to lower back injections and surgery due to its gentle, non-invasive nature. Many of our patients even say they love this technique because it is so relaxing.
